Martin “Rekkles” Larsson, the only active European League of Legends World Champion, has announced his departure from T1 to return to Sweden.

In an emotional statement, Rekkles shared the personal and professional struggles that led him to this decision, despite his recent success and growth with T1.

Citing a need to reconnect with his roots and prioritise his mental health, he revealed that he was diagnosed as being on the autism spectrum last year and had been grappling with family issues and career challenges since his departure from Fnatic in 2020.

Initially hesitant to continue in pro play, Rekkles saw T1’s offer as an opportunity he couldn’t pass up, describing it as a transformative experience.

Moving to Korea, learning a new role, and joining the T1 League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) Challengers team in an unfamiliar environment brought him invaluable growth.

He expressed deep gratitude to his teammates and the organisation, sharing how T1’s support allowed him to build camaraderie and a renewed sense of purpose.

However, Rekkles explained that being with T1 didn’t solve his personal struggles—it merely “put them on hold.”

After a challenging but rewarding season, he felt the time was right to return to Sweden, where he can focus on his mental health and family.

Drawing a metaphor from League of Legends, he likened his decision to “taking a recall” to refill his health and mana for the battles ahead.

Although he is stepping back temporarily, Rekkles reassured fans that he’s not stepping away from the game.

He has received an offer to continue competing professionally from home in 2025, which he believes will bring balance and longevity to his career.

As he concluded, “Thank you all for being with me so far, and I hope you’ll join me for this next chapter as well. I couldn’t do it without your support.”

With his legacy at T1 and promise to return in 2025, Rekkles’ journey is far from over—he plans to use this time to prepare for a fresh start in competitive play, ready to come back stronger in the coming season.
