Polish League of Legends jungler Marcin Jankos Jankowski has revealed that he has parted ways with G2 Esports. This comes on the back of the team’s terrible performance at the 2022 World Championship group stage and eventual exit from the tournament.

He made this revelation in a recent video announcement via his personal YouTube channel, expressing his gratitude to the players he shared the stage with in his time with the team. In the 14-minute long clip, he reminisced about having spent five seasons with the franchise and spoke about the struggles he faced with the organization.

From my point of view, playing with the players I played with was really amazing, and I truly am grateful I got to play with all of them, Jankos said in the video announcement.

Although there had been rumors about his exit from the franchise for some time now, it has only just become official. In the video, he shared that he had no intention of leaving G2 until later in the year, with the franchise planning to experiment with a different jungler in 2023.

Since joining the team in December 2017, Jankos has been nothing short of phenomenal. He established himself quickly as the pillar of the team, leading them to three consecutive top-four finishes at the World Championship. He also led the team to an international trophy at the 2019 Mid-Season Invitational.

In his time with the team, he has led them to five (5) domestic titles (League of Legends European Championship). In 2019, they won the LEC Spring and Summer tournaments and replicated the same in 2020.

However, the franchise placed third and fourth in the 2021 LEC Spring and Summer, respectively. In 2022, they were able to clinch the LEC Spring title and finished as runners-up in the Summer Split, having lost to Rogue in the grand finale.

Another noteworthy achievement this year was their top four finish at the 2022 MSI, but their year has more recently been crowned by a 1-5 record in the group stage at the Worlds.

We were everywhere we could be from a competitive point of view, Jankos said in his video.

As much as we did get clapped at Worlds, theres many people who wish they could be clapped at Worlds instead of sitting at home and watching.

Despite being one of the best junglers in Europe, Jankos is 27 years of age, which makes him older than most LEC players. He has stated that he will be giving his best for the last couple of years he has in him.

Ive been a part of this team for so long now that changing environments, for me, can actually be beneficial, Jankos said. Wherever I end up, If I really want to give it my best for the last couple of years I have left in me, it would be good for me to play with different players, maybe on a different org. Just to try something else.

With the 2023 LEC season commencing in January and free agency in November 2022, Jankos could land a contract with one of the top contenders in western League of Legends.

He took to his Twitter page to make an open call to interested franchises in need of his services. He also stated that while he is still under contract, G2 have given him the go ahead to receive offers.

I’m still under contract, but after 5 years with G2, I’ve been allowed to explore my options for 2023, Jankos tweeted.

It was a long journey with ups and downs, but eventually all things have to come to an end.

While G2 Esports had a very quiet 2021 campaign, they have come back stronger, extending their League of Legends European Championship titles to a record-setting nine titles. They will be representing Europe in Busan, South Korea at the 2022 Mid-Season Invitational, which is set to commence on May 10, 2022.

After going trophyless in 2021, the organization reshuffled the team, letting go of key players like Martin Nordahl Hansen, better known as Wunder to rival Fnatic and Mihael “Mikyx” Mehle to Excel Esports. Star-talent Martin “Rekkles” Larsson who was supposed to lead the team to multiple trophies was traded. The Swedish bot laner joined the French organization, Karmine Corp.

With these elite players off the team, G2 Esports announced the signing of top and bottom loaners on Dec. 2021. Two of which were coming out of the ERLs, Victor Flakked Lirola and Rapha?l Targamas Crabb. German/Turkish veteran top laner Sergen “BrokenBlade” ?elik joined the team from the now non-existent Schalke 04.

The new additions joined the only retained players, Rasmus Borregaard Winther, otherwise known as caPs, and Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski. Not much was expected from the team with a rookie on their roster (Flakked). But the King of Europe shocked the League Of Legends league community, already clinching two trophies this year.

While the team had some challenges early on in the year, ranging from the team’s exposure to Covid-19 to their first playoff series loss to Fnatic. The team was said to have developed into the cold assassins that they have become during the three-week break. The break after the regular season and before the playoffs offered them ample time to bond and master their craft.

Talking about their journey through rebuilding the team, Jankos shared that their achievements today were born out of hard work. He revealed that their absence from the Worlds afforded them an early start with the new members, as they started scrims last November. It was important to build team chemistry and get an early start in finding the perfect mix.

The 26-year old described himself as an “older brother” to the team, stating that the chemistry with the lads has so far been natural. He also shared a scenario where he had to scold the guys, keeping them focused.

Jankos explains that they exist a mutual within the team, despite himself, caPs and BrokenBlade having had more success. He revealed that they don’t have high egos and as such, there’s been no clash whatsoever. He went on about how important it was to listen to everyone and trust them completely, stating that when it comes to it, it is a team effort.

I feel like even though me, Caps, and BB (might have) had more success in the past (compared to) Flakked and Targamas, we dont really have high egos, Jankos said. We dont think of ourselves as gods. We dont think that we have to be right. We listen to Targamas, we listen to Flakked, and we trust them completely that they have a better idea (on) how to play the game than we do. Its a team effort and a lot of ideas come from the five of us and the coaching staff, not only from a single player.

G2 Esports jungler Marcin Jankos Jankowski has been crowned as the Most Valuable Player of the 2020 League of Legends European Championship (LEC) Spring Split following his team’s triumph over Fnatic in the grand finals on Sunday.

The 24-year-old LoL pro has now won three successive LEC titles and two consecutive Kia LEC MVP awards, having also taken out top honours last September after G2 reverse-swept Fnatic in the 2019 LEC Summer Split finals.

Jankos finished LEC Spring 2020 with a league-high 96 kills and also led all junglers in kills, deaths and assists (KDA), average gold difference at 10 minutes and average damage to champions per minute. What makes the Polish pro a force to be reckoned with on the Summoner’s Rift is his unmatched early-game aggression, which has earned him the nickname, “The First Blood King”.

Jankos started his LoL career at Mistral in 2013 and played for GF-Gaming, H2k-Gaming, Keidys Mialem Team and Team ROCCAT before landing at G2 in December 2017. By winning his second MVP title, the star jungler has further solidified himself as one of the most consistent and best-performing players in League of Legends esports.

While Jankos grabbed the headlines, we cant forget about G2’s mid laner Luka PERKZ Perkovi?. The 21-year-old Croatian had one of the best seasons of his career, which is especially impressive when you consider that he transitioned from playing ADC last season.

PERKZ secured the third-most kills out of all players and had the third-highest average damage to champions per minute. G2’s win in the 2020 Spring Split also made Perkz the most decorated LoL player in Europe with seven LEC titles.
