Geek Fam will look to make it three wins in a row when they face T1 on the third matchday at ESL One Thailand 2020 Asia.
After winning their opening two fixtures against Question Mark (2-1) and Aster.Aries (2-0), another victory for Geek Fam on Thursday would guarantee them a spot in the playoffs and a shot at US $50,000 in tournament winnings.
The bout with Question Mark (formerly The BOX) was relatively close, as the underdogs managed to force a three-map series with an impressive performance in game two. Nevertheless, it would be fair to say that Carlo “KuKu” Palad never looked like they could lose.
Surprisingly enough, Geek Fam’s fixture with Aster.Aries was much more one-sided. While KuKu and co. came close to dropping the ball on the second map, they clawed their way to a 2-0 win thanks to a phenomenal performance from mid laner Karl “Karl” Jayme.
Geek Fam’s solid start at ESL One Thailand 2020 Asia continues a trend of good performances this year. Out of the 10 tournaments they have attended in 2020, Geek Fam won three, reached the grand finals in two, and settled for a bronze medal in three. Their worst result of the year came in April when they finished fourth at the ESL One Los Angeles 2020 Online Southeast Asia.

Shortly after T1 put together their Dota2 team in March 2019, they made it to the final round of DreamLeague Season 13 SEA Open Qualifier – quite an achievement for such a new squad. They also reached a top-four placements in the ESL One Los Angeles 2020 Southeast Asia Open Qualifier and the first two iterations of ESL SEA Championship 2020 qualifiers.
After finishing seventh-eighth in Thailand Celestial Cup S2, BTS Pro Series Southeast Asia, Asia Spring Invitational and Cyber.bet Cup Spring Series SEA from March through May, T1 went all the way at the Hephaestus Cup to lift their first Dota 2 esports trophy. They needed only a week to add more silverware when they produced a near-perfect run en route to the SEA Dota Invitational 2020 title.
Since then, T1 have run seventh-eighth at BTS Pro Series Season 2 and fourth in the ONE Esports Dota 2 SEA League. Both are decent results for such a new roster, as those tournaments featured some of the best SEA Dota2 teams.
T1 split their first two games at ESL One Thailand, losing to Neon Esports (1-2) and bouncing back against Question Mark (2-0) this Tuesday. The 1-1 record keeps them in the race for the playoffs, but a loss here would put them in an unenviable position with games against Sparking Arrow Gaming and Aster.Aries still to play.
Since T1 formed their Dota2 roster, they have clashed with Geek Fam five times and failed to win a match. On a more positive note, they at least managed a 1-1 stalemate in the BTS Pro Series in June and forced a three-map series in the ONE Esports SEA League last month.
Since their last meeting, T1 let go of their captain, Lee “Forev” Sang-don, and replaced him with the experienced Samson Solomon Enojosa “Sam_H” Hidalgo. Geek Fam recently parted ways with Marc Polo Luis “Raven” Fausto, who left for Fnatic, and temporarily replaced him with Evil Geniuses mid laner Abed Azel “Abed” L. Yusop.
With those changes, T1 look to be slightly stronger than before and should put up a solid fight. Geek Fam are still the favourites, but they tend to rely too much on Abed. A 2-1 win for GF seems like the most likely outcome, so T1 at the +1.5 line looks a solid bet.

Fnatic will look to improve on their impressive recent record against TNC Predator when they meet on the third matchday at ESL One Thailand 2020 Asia.
These two sides have developed an intense rivalry since they first faced off back in September 2015. While most of their fixtures have been close, Fnatic have reigned supreme this year with an impressive 6-1-1 head-to-head record and 15-5 map differential.

TNC’s only win in that run was a narrow 2-1 result back in January, when they knocked out Fnatic in the second round of the lower bracket at the Leipzig Major. After that, Fnatic defeated TNC three times at BTS Pro Series Southeast Asia (2-1, 2-0, 3-0), again at ESL One Birmingham SEA (2-0), produced a stalemate during the second season of the BTS Pro Series (1-1), and won twice more in the Esports SEA League (2-0, 2-1).
Since they were eliminated from the Leipzig Major, Fnatic have attended seven tournaments and won five of them: DOTA Summit 12, ESL One Los Angeles 2020 Online Southeast Asia, BTS Pro Series Southeast Asia, ESL One Birmingham 2020 and World E-sports Legendary League. They have slowed down a bit in the last two months, however, finishing only third at BTS Pro Series Season 2 and second at the ONE Esports Dota 2 SEA League.

At ESL One Thailand 2020 Asia, Anucha “Jabz” Jirawong and his crew left a lot to be desired with their 1-2 loss to Motivate.Trust Gaming in their opening fixture. While they bounced back with a 2-0 win against Team Trust on Sunday, it’s hard to praise them too much for putting away a semi-pro team.
While Fnatic were winning titles left and right, TNC Predator hit a slump after they won the MDL Chengdu Major in November 2019 and have yet to recover. Besides their occasional flashes of greatness, which saw them claim silver from the BTS Pro Series and bronze from ONE Esports Dota 2 SEA League, Park “March” Tae-won and co. have looked far from their former selves.

In a way, TNC have emerged as a perfect illustration of just how much of an effect the online format can have on teams. Once a dominant force in the SEA region, they are now struggling to compete even against second-tier teams.
On a more positive note, TNC Predator have looked solid so far this competition. They’re currently leading Group A with a perfect 2-0 record which they earned by defeating Team Adroit (2-0) and Motivate.Trust Gaming (2-1), meaning a win here would guarantee them at least a top-four seed.
Fnatic are 6-1-3 from their last 10 games, although eight of those were played over a month ago. Since the break, Fnatic are 1-1 with a loss to Motivate.Trust Gaming and a win against Team Trust. TNC Predator, meanwhile, are 4-3-3 from their last 10 games and 2-0 across the last two weeks.
TNC look like they are in better shape than Fnatic right now. While the sample size of games played is rather small, it’s hard to ignore Fnatic’s loss to Motivate.Trust and a surprisingly close series with Trust, who nearly stole the second map.
Historically, Fnatic are the better team in these meetings, the form lines point to TNC Predator at very generous odds. The handicap is the safer bet, but we love the value in the head-to-head market.

]]>Business associates and Thunder Predator will lock horns for the seventh time in their history this Wednesday on the second matchday of ESL One Thailand 2020: Americas.
Business associates enter the clash following a devastating loss to Infamous, who defeated them 2-1 on Saturday. Even though BA failed to start their ESL One Thailand campaign with a win, they did not look too bad in their loss considering it was only their second official match in almost two weeks.
Infamous took the series lead with a commanding performance in game one which they won in just under 28 minutes with a 33-13 kill lead and +16.8k net worth differential. Things, however, took a sudden turn in game two, when business associates returned the favour and crushed Infamous in 25 minutes.
The second map of the series saw Clinton “Fear” Loomis and his crew accumulate a massive +32 kill differential (43-11) and a 30.2k net worth lead at the end of the game. Much of BA’s success came down to David “Moo” Hull who had an outstanding performance (15/0/17) on Void Spirit, while Braxton “Brax” Paulson did not fail to impress either with 7/1/27 on Dark Seer.
After a back-and-forth in the opening two games, business associates and Infamous produced a very close affair on the third and final map, and while the North American squad managed to keep up the pace with Infamous for the majority of the early-game, the Peruvian squad ran away with the lead at around 20th minute and won the game with a +8 kill differential (42-34) and +35.4k net worth lead.
Taking on business associates this Wednesday will be Thunder Predator, who unlike their Northern neighbours started the ESL One Thailand 2020: Americas with a win against CR4ZY (2-1).
Similarly to business associates, Thunder Predator’s opening match of the competition was relatively close. Romel “Mjz” Quinteros and co. secured the series lead with a commanding performance on map one which they won with 20-8 in kills and +18.3k net worth lead, but failed to carry over the momentum into the second map, and lost with 17-41 in kills and over 27k net worth deficit.
Nevertheless, Thunder Predator bounced back in style and took down CR4ZY in the third map thanks to another strong performance from Leonardo “Leostyle-” Sifuentes (12/1/20), Mjz (12/1/13) and Frank “Frank” Arias (13/5/22). Thunder Predator ended the final game of the series with 45-15 in kills and well over 28k net worth lead.
Thunder Predator are coming into this match following a fourth-place finish at The Great American Rivalry Season 1 Division 1 and a 6-2-2 record from their last 10 games. It’s also worth noting, that Thunder Predator are 3-1 across the last seven days.
Business associates, on the other side, finished The Great American Rivalry Season 1 Division 1 in ninth-10th place after failing to make it out of the group (2-1-6). Fear and his team are also holding onto a 2-1-7 record from their last 10 fixtures and have played only one game this month.
Out of seven meetings with business associates, Thunder Predator drew once and split the remaining six games. While a 3-1-3 head-to-head record might suggest these two teams match up nicely, it’s worth mentioning that Thunder Predator won both of their last two fixtures against business associates (2-1 and 2-0).
The last time business associates defeated Thunder Predator was in June during the BTS Pro Series Season 2: Americas (2-0), and before that in May at the ESL One Birmingham 2020 – Online: North & South America (2-0).
The esports betting odds have Thunder Predator priced as the favourites and while there is no denying they have shown in recent weeks, we find the +1.5 map handicap bet on the underdogs far more inviting.
Business associates might have looked a bit shaky in their clash with Infamous, however, that was their first game in over a week, so they were likely a bit ring rusty and underperformed as a result of that. This time out we expect a better performance from them and if they can deliver, Fear and his crew should have no issues winning at least one map as they did four times already.
