Toronto Ultra are priced as heavy favourites for their clash with Las Vegas Legion, which isn’t too shocking. Ultra are one of the top teams in the CDL, and they’ve looked excellent over the last three weeks of action.

Their search & destroy needs more work, as was evident in their 3-1 victory over Los Angeles Thieves last week. It marked the third search & destroy map Toronto Ultra has dropped this season—previously against Los Angeles Guerrillas and one against Boston Breach.

While Toronto Ultra needs to clean up a bit, they shouldn’t struggle against Las Vegas Legion. With a 1-5 record and just one win against Minnesota R?KKR, the Legion are not in a good spot, but they forced OpTic to five maps last week and played a fairly close map one against FaZe on Sunday.

There is a world where the Legion steals one map, but it seems just as likely that Toronto Ultra sweeps.

Miami Heretics have looked fairly decent this season. They are 3-2, with defeats against Seattle Surge and Boston Breach. Losing two games might not mean much; however, we have to note that Miami Heretics’ three wins came against the bottom teams.

Los Angeles Guerrillas have outperformed expectations in the CDL Major 1 Qualifier. Even though they’re 2-3, the Guerrillas played well last week against Atlanta FaZe and Boston Breach. The Guerrillas have posted similar results as Heretics, but they had to play much tougher opponents.

Esports betting sites have Los Angeles Guerrillas priced as favourites, which is fair. But considering Miami Heretics haven’t shown much against stronger teams, the price gap should probably be even bigger.

Seattle Surge got humiliated by Toronto Ultra at the start of CDL Major 1 Qualifier Week 3, but then bounced back with a 3-2 victory against Miami Heretics. In the second round, Seattle lost against FaZe and OpTic but ended the first round with two wins against Los Angeles Thieves and Boston Breach.

Based on those results, Seattle Surge seems like the gatekeeper for a top-four finish and a potential dark horse to produce a deep run. They’re not quite at the level of top teams, but they’re still better than most mid-table squads.

Minnesota R?KKR are not in a good spot. Their only victory came on Sunday, when R?KKR defeated Carolina Royal Ravens. Still, they have produced some solid games even against stronger opponents, such as New York Subliners and OpTic Texas.

R?KKR seem they’re a couple of roster changes away from becoming very competitive, as they’re decent on respawns and have won a few search & destroy maps. This doesn’t mean they’ll have an easy time against Seattle Surge, but there’s a chance that they can steal two maps.

Miami Heretics are 3-2 ahead of the fourth week of the CDL Major 1 Qualifier, which isn’t terrible. However, they lost both games last week against Seattle Surge and Boston Breach, 2–3 and 1-3, respectively.

Much like the case with OpTic, a couple of poor showings don’t make Miami Heretics a weak team. They’ve shown some flashes of greatness so far this season and can be competitive on a good day.

The problem with Miami Heretics is that they’ve not played any good teams, so everything they’ve shown should be taken with a grain of salt.

New York Subliners won both matches last week against Minnesota R?KKR and the Los Angeles Thieves, beating both teams with two maps to spare. The Subliners performed well in both matches, but there are a few things to note about this squad.

Despite being very effective on Search & Destroy, Subliners’ respawns need some work. And that’s something Toronto Ultra could take advantage of on Friday.

Toronto Ultra are 4-1 after three rounds of action, with two wins from last week against the Seattle Surge and Los Angeles Thieves. In both series, Toronto Ultra looked solid on respawns; however, they aren’t nearly as good on Search & Destroy, creating an interesting situation between the two CDL teams.

CoD esports betting sites have Toronto Ultra priced as favourites, which might not sound wrong, but at -138.89, they’re way too short. Subliners at even money or better are a wiser choice.

Even in the two losses, Seattle Surge performed well and came close to posting much better results. That doesn’t make them one of the top favourites to win the first CDL Major, but Seattle Surge has shown enough to prove they can compete with the best.

Toronto Ultra looked unstoppable in their wins against LA Guerrillas and Carolina Royal Ravens but then got humiliated by Boston Breach on the final day of the Week 2 qualifiers. Off-games like that are fairly typical for Toronto Ultra, but this doesn’t change the fact that they’re still one of the elite teams.

The Surge should be priced as underdogs for this match due to Toronto Ultra’s high ceiling, but it’s tough to imagine a blowout win for Tobias “CleanX” J?nsson and his crew. This should be an entertaining series that can easily go the distance.

Minnesota R?KKR ended the first two rounds of CDL Major 1 Qualifiers without a single win. They lost against Las Vegas Legion and OpTic Texas in the first week and added another rough 1-3 defeat against Miami Heretics in Week 2.

The game against Miami Heretics was close, but that’s no excuse for R?KKR’s poor execution on the day. Minnesota R?KKR will struggle to accomplish much on Friday unless they improve.

New York Subliners are 3-0 ahead of the third week of CDL Major 1 Qualifiers, after wins against OpTic Texas, Los Angeles Guerrillas, and Las Vegas Legion. Their schedule over the first two weeks wasn’t very challenging, but it’s tough to find any flaws in the Subliners’ games.

Legion, while a team with potential, have yet to show enough for us to see them as a serious threat for FaZe. But they’re good enough to take Hardpoint, and it wouldn’t be too shocking to see Las Vegas Legion steal S&D. A bet on FaZe to win 3-1 at the offered CoD esports betting odds is a solid choice.

London Royal Ravens got off to a good start to the 2023 CDL season, with wins against New York Subliners (0-3) and Los Angeles Guerrillas (3-2). However, they had a fairly easy schedule, so while London Royal Ravens are 2-0 heading into this week, we need to see a bit more before we can start believing that they’re serious title contenders.

OpTic Texas could easily be 2-0 if not for the drama in the Minnesota R?KKR series, but they did bounce back strong with a 3-0 sweep of Florida Mutineers. This team is very good in Hardpoint, and they did not look bad in Search & Destroy either.

Whether OpTic is as good as the community believes is debatable, but they’ve yet to show anything that would make us doubt them. If they deserve to be priced as short favourites against London Royal Ravens is another question.

OpTic Texas have looked better so far this season, but it’s hard to make any conclusions after two rounds, and it’s not like they’re individually much stronger than the Ravens. The right play in our book is a bet on the outsiders to force a tight series.

Boston Breach put together a 2-0 run in the opening week, with wins against Atlanta FaZe (3-1) and Seattle Surge (3-1), which has people talking about them being one of the best teams in the league. Unfortunately, that isn’t entirely true, or at least it’s way too soon to get overly excited about the Breach.

They looked very disciplined last week, and their strong Search & Destroy will lead them far, but it’s too early to start talking about a potential title run. New York Subliners are in the same boat as a team that has to show a lot more.

The Subliners are easily the most disappointing team from last week, with defeats against London Royal Ravens (0-3) and Toronto Ultra (1-3). Their only map victory came on Search & Destroy, and even that was poorly executed.

We’re very low on New York Subliners, who look ripe for another 0-3 loss.

Florida Mutineers secured a bit (3-2) win over Las Vegas Legion on Saturday but then looked outclassed against OpTic Texas (0-3) on Sunday. Still, it wasn’t a bad run for Florida Mutineers’ standards.

They have not looked too good on Hardpoint (0-3) but have a 66.67% win rate on Search & Destroy (2-1) and are 1-1 on Control. Overall solid showings, but we wouldn’t expect too much from the Mutineers on Saturday.

Los Angeles Thieves are 1-1 with a win against the Legion (3-1) and a defeat against Atlanta FaZe (2-3). Their weakest mode has been S&D (1-2), but we’re talking about very small sample size, so those figures don’t mean too much. Overall, we liked what we saw from the LA Thieves last round.

Florida Mutineers have the tools to be competitive later in the season, but so far, they’ve yet to see the level for us to believe they can compete with the top dogs. A 3-0 sweep for LA Thieves sounds like a reasonable expectation.

With that, R?KKR enter the second week of CDL Major 1 qualifiers as one of three teams with a 2-0 record, putting them in an excellent position to lock in a top-eight finish.

Florida Mutineers started the season with a 3-2 victory against Las Vegas Legion but then suffered a devastating 0-3 defeat against OpTic, who took no prisoners after deciding to forfeit their opener. Had the Mutineers performed better against OpTic, we would believe they could win here, but their chances to come out ahead seem very slim.

They might take a respawn, but Florida Mutineers shouldn’t cause too many issues for R?KKR, who are clearly the better team.

This is a very tough match to predict, featuring two very shaky CoD teams. New York Subliners have managed to win just one map in the opening week (0-3 vs Royal Ravens, 1-3 vs Toronto Ultra), whereas Los Angeles Guerrillas won their opening match against the Surge (3-2) but then lost against Royal Ravens (2-3).

The Guerrillas have won one game, so you have to respect them a bit more, and you could argue that their teamwork looks cleaner. Subliners, while a very talented roster, don’t seem to click together, and until we see some improvement in that department, it’s tough to side with the New York squad.

Despite what the latest CDL betting odds show, we have far more confidence in Los Angeles Guerrillas, who should win with plenty to spare. A bet on a 3-0 sweep for the Guerrillas pays at +550, which is a solid longshot bet against the disorganised New York Subliners.

Atlanta FaZe lost their season opener against Boston Breach (1-3) and bounced back with a narrow (3-2) victory against Los Angeles Thieves on Sunday. FaZe deserved to win, but it was a very close series that could easily have ended the other way.

Atlanta FaZe have yet to show the expected level of play, but they can feel confident going into this match, knowing that they have historically dominated Toronto Ultra. That might not mean much with all the new faces on the two rosters, but even now, Atlanta FaZe look stronger.

Toronto Ultra lost against Minnesota R?KKR (1-3) in their first match of the season and defeated the New York Subliners (3-1), which is hardly worth celebrating. There’s a world where Toronto Ultra shift into a higher gear on Friday, but a 3-1 victory for FaZe seems like the most likely outcome.

In their first game of the CDL Major 1 Qualifiers, which commenced on December 2, FaZe went down to the Boston Breach in four maps. The Thieves, on the other hand, started their campaign with a win over the Las Vegas Legion.

He registered 30 kills and 14 deaths on the map, posting a 2.14 K/D with the team finishing the game with a 250–216 score line. Tyler “aBeZy” Pharris also played a big role with 29 kills while sustaining only 20 deaths.

Los Angeles Thieves took the loss on the chin and moved on, exerting their dominance on the second map. The defending champions bested FaZe on Hotel (Search & Destroy), closing out the map in the 11th round. Kenneth “Kenny” Williams was the only player on the roster with a positive rating, having secured nine kills and eight deaths.

Both teams divided the next two maps, with FaZe winning 3-2 on Al Bagra Fortress (Control) and the Thieves getting up 250-169 on Hydro (Hardpoint), respectively.

Having defeated FaZe on Search & Destroy maps numerous times in the 2022 regular season, including the grand final of the CDL Championship, the Thieves were expected to do the same in the deciding map of the series. While they had lost to the LA Thieves in the first S&D map of the series, it appears Atlanta were not willing to suffer another defeat.

FaZe took an early 5-2 lead on the map, and LA Thieves managed to reduce the gap to 5-3 but found it difficult to make their way back. Atlanta seemed too hot to handle as all of their players finished the map with a positive rating. Cellium led the team, having secured the highest kill-to-death ratio (9-4).

On December 10, FaZe will be tasked with going up against the Las Vegas Legion, who have yet to win a matchup, in their next outing. Although esports betting sites have yet to post odds for this game, Atlanta will be favorites to win the outing.

LA Thieves will take on the Florida Mutineers on the same day but at a later time. Both teams have posted a 1-1 record thus far, but the defending champions will be expected to be the better team of both franchises.

The franchise has seemingly bounced back from a controversial start to the campaign. A few days earlier, the team refused to replay a map due to a kill-streak glitch and was forced to forfeit the game, thereby conceding defeat to the Minnesota ROKKR.

Anthony “Shotzzy” Cuevas-Castro and Brandon “Dashy” Otell led the OpTic Texas charge in the first map of Sunday’s series. Mercado Las Almas (Hardpoint) saw the duo register a combined total of 50 frags while only sustaining 34 deaths.

Seth “Scump” Abner — who had earlier revealed that the 2023 CDL season will be his last — was good for 21 kills and 17 deaths. Texas won the map by a score of 250–202 to commence what became a dominant performance.

While Shotzzy and Dashy reigned supreme in the first map, Indervir “iLLeY” Dhaliwal and Scump were the heroes of the second map. On Embassy (Search & Destroy), iLLeY post some excellent plays using his signature sniper rifle.

Despite suffering a 3-2 round deficit, OpTic were fortunate to have a 3v2 advantage over the Mutineers. ILLeY certainly did not need the advantage as he dealt Carson “Brack” Newberry a headshot and went on to take down Javier “Vikul” Milagro, bringing the round to a 3-3 score. Scump led the team with 11 kills and six deaths as OpTic won the round 6-3 and claimed the second map.

On Hotel (Control), OpTic were excellent on defence and very sharp on offense. With clutch play after clutch play, they soon racked up a two-round advantage.

Although the Mutineers were expected to clinch the B point and were close to doing so, Texas took over the point and prevented their opponents from progressing. This gave them room to run down the clock as they sealed the series without losing a map.

In a post-game interview, Scump described the game as the most “fugaze” he has ever witnessed.

“Friday was the most fugaze that I’ve ever seen in my career,” Scump said.

“It’s hard to lose a match when you don’t even lose the match.”

With momentum on their side, OpTic Texas will take on the Los Angeles Thieves, who are the defending champions of the league, on December 11. Florida, who were the underdogs in the match against OpTic, will play against the Minnesota ROKKR in their next outing on December 9.

Toronto Ultra have promoted Thomas “Scrappy” Ernst to the main roster and added former R?KKR player Eli “Standy” Bentz, who should fit in well with the rest of the team. Overall, this looks like a solid roster that is not quite elite-tier but still one of the contenders for the CDL trophy.

The R?KKR and Ultra look fairly evenly matched on paper, and even though you could rank Toronto slightly higher, we wouldn’t bet on them at the offered betting odds. There’s a good chance this turns into a five-map series, but we prefer Minnesota R?KKR at evens or better.

?New York Subliner went through a lot of drama last season, and while they ended the year on a high note, they also had some very low lows. Ahead of the 2023 Call of Duty League season, the Subliners have made some roster changes, which should introduce more stability; however, this is a very young roster without veteran leadership.

On a more positive note, there’s a lot of raw talent, so they might ramp up as the season progresses. Luckily, their first opponents of the 2023 Call of Duty League season are London Royal Ravens, who have been struggling.

The Royal Ravens have not been performing well in the scrims, and the word on the street is that the London squad heads into the CDL Major 1 qualifiers as the weakest team in the field. There’s a lot of room for upsets in the season’s opening week, but betting on London Royal Ravens in the position they’re in doesn’t sound like a smart move.

With Joseph “Owakening” Conley and Reece “Vivid” Drost joining the team, Boston Breach now field a very competitive, standard-built roster. On paper, Boston Breach seem to have it all: a slow AR, medium-paced flex and two aggressive sub players.

The only issue we have with the Breach is that they don’t have top-tier players across the positions. Instead, this squad features mid-tier players, who’ll do well, but won’t be able to compete with the likes of LA Thieves or Atlanta FaZe.

Seattle Surge are the same team from last season, meaning they still have a fairly high ceiling. Whether they’ll look as good as they did last season, when they placed third, remains to be seen, but the talent is there.

Boston Breach aren’t a team you would ignore, but at the offered betting odds, Seattle Surge to win makes more sense. This is a solid roster, and we know what to expect from them. Boston Breach, on the other side, still have a lot to prove.

Florida Mutineers weren’t great last year, and with the team’s best players leaving the squad ahead of this season, it’s tough to imagine the Mutineers succeeding. They’ll have to rely heavily on their Search & Destroy, but even that might not be enough for them to make a splash, as they still lack firepower.

Their next opponents, Las Vegas Legion, enter the 2023 CDL season as one of the outsiders, but that mostly has to do with the team’s lack of success over the years.

And even though we don’t know how this team will do, the Legion have been putting in the work in scrims and playing the game more than any other team in the league. That alone should give them an edge, especially in week one of the new season.

The Mutineers can surprise, but at the offered CoD betting odds, we like Las Vegas Legion to cover the 1.5-map handicap.

They did make a shocking roster change ahead of the 2023 season, moving Alec “Arcitys” Sanderson off the team last year, but they picked up Austin “SlasheR” Liddicoat, who is one of the best AR players of all time. Most of the CoD community isn’t high on SlasheR, but he has been stuck with struggling teams – now that’s going to change.

Boston Breach have made some roster changes ahead of this season, adding Joseph “Owakening” Conley and Reece “Vivid” Drost to form a standard roster with slow AR, aggressive sub players, and an ideal flex in Owakening. This team has potential, but it will be interesting to see how the Breach do in a more slow-paced game and how the two subs play together.

This looks like a fairly easy win for Atlanta FaZe. Even though it’s tough to call how the opening matches of the new season will go, FaZe to win by at least two maps is the smart play.

Modern Warfare II feels more like an older Call of Duty game, which should complement Seth “Scump” Abner (who’s entering his final pro season), but the rest of OpTic Texas might struggle to adapt to a more slow-paced gameplay. This team also had a weird situation in the offseason, dropping Brandon “Dashy” Otell and Indervir “iLLeY” Dhaliwal only to pick them up again shortly after.

On a more positive note, OpTic Texas have looked good in scrims, but they seemed more like a middle-of-the-pack team than true title contenders.

Minnesota R?KKR went through a complete roster overhaul, keeping only Dillon “Attach” Price and pairing him with Marcus “Afro” Reid, Ben “Bance” Bance, and Cameron “Cammy” McKilligan. This game will be great for Attach and Bence, who prefer to play a bit slower, but we must also acknowledge how adaptable Cammy is, leaving Afro as the wild card.

Minnesota R?KKR scream consistency and stability, while OpTic Texas are a bit more in the air as a team that might gel together well and perform, or else fall apart. So while you can’t write off OpTic Texas, the R?KKR are a far more appealing pick here.

The perpetual Call of Duty League underdogs, Las Vegas Legion (formerly Paris Legion), enter the 2023 season looking much better. Still, the esports betting sites have the Legion priced as +4000 to win the CDL Championship, which is fair given there are many question marks above this roster.

With the three-time world champion James “Clayster” Eubanks joining the team, you have to feel a bit more optimistic about the Legion’s chances to succeed, but the 30-year-old CoD veteran hasn’t had the greatest year – much like Thomas “TJHaLy” Haly. On a more positive note, the Legion have been doing well in scrims and have been grinding the game more than any other team in the league, which could be a big difference in the first qualifiers, especially considering how much earlier this season will kick off.

The reigning CDL champions, Los Angeles Thieves, look extremely good heading into the 2023 CDL season, and with the players on this roster, it’s only a matter of time before they become a dominant force. It might take some time for the Thieves to figure out the game, but once they do, they’ll be tough to stop.

Not only is this a well-rounded LA roster, but it also features clutch players who can adapt, and that’s a very important trait to have heading into the first week of a new season. But the Thieves are known for starting slow, so it’s not too crazy to believe that the Legion – who might be underrated – can force a five-map series.
