OH HY GOD vs ROYAL NEVER GIVE UP LPL SUMMER BETTING PREVIEW

Oh My God and Royal Never Give Up will kick off their League of Legends Pro League (LPL) Summer campaign on Saturday when they meet in the opening week of the split.

Royal Never Give Up have parted ways with their legendary ADC Jian “Uzi” Zi-Hao, who recently announced his retirement from professional League of Legends esports. That will allow Lu “Betty” Yu-Hung to cement his position as the team’s starting ADC.

That is not the only roster change Royal Never Give Up have made ahead of LPL Summer 2020. Towards the end of May, top laners Xie “Langx” Zhen-Ying and Zhang “yuekai” Yue-Kai left for LGD Gaming and Royal Club respectively. As their replacements, RNG signed He “705” Yu-Long from JD Gaming and Tian “New” Zhi-Peng from Legend Esport Gaming.

Earlier in the month, RNG also re-signed Yuan “Cryin” Cheng-Wei, who was a substitute mid laner for RNG in 2019 and has spent the last season with eStar. However, the new arrivals won’t change the team’s identity too much, as the top lane will be the only difference to the starting roster for the LPL Spring 2020.

It remains to be seen who will take over as RNG’s new top laner. At first glance, 705 seems like a perfect fit for the team’s playstyle due to his bruiser-heavy champion pool. Although he is still an unproven talent in LPL, the 18-year-old impressed while standing in for JD Gaming’s top laner, Zhang “Zoom” Xing-Ran.

New, on the other hand, is a player many remember from his days at ViCi Gaming. Formerly known as “Meow”, he renamed himself shortly after he left for Triumphant Song Gaming following ViCi’s disastrous performances in 2018. Unlike 705, New’s champion pool consists mostly of carry top laners, which might not fit in the current meta that favours support top laners.

Like RNG, Oh My God have made a few roster changes ahead of the 2020 LPL Summer season. On May 24, they announced the departure of substitute ADC Chen “Kane” Hao and the arrival of ex-Victory Five top laner Huang “Aliez” Hao and former RNG sub support Liu “Sora” Zhi-Long.

Neither Kane nor Aliez has been added to the starting lineup, meaning OMG will enter the new split with the same roster they fielded in the spring. That is slightly concerning, as OMG were very ordinary in the first split of the year.

OMG started LPL 2020 Spring with a solid 5-2 run but failed to deliver in the final weeks, when they lost to LGD (0-2), eStar (0-2, EDward Gaming (0-2) and Team WE (1-2). Although OMG were in contention for a post-season appearance for most of the split, their poor showings in the latter stages saw them finish in 12th place with a 7-9 record.

A lot of OMG’s struggles came down to the poor performances of their top laner Chen “Curse” Chen, who ended the split with some of the worst numbers in his position, including a 1.89 KDA, 55.3% KPAR and 3.05 average deaths per game.

OH HY GOD vs ROYAL NEVER GIVE UP LPL SUMMER BETTING PREDICTION

The betting odds for Royal Never Give Up are a light more generous than we expected, which might have something to do with the departure of Langx. Chemistry could be an issue for a couple of weeks as 705 and New settle in, but that should not pose too many problems for RNG against the top-heavy Oh My God roster.

Since this is the first match of the split, we would avoid betting on a clean sweep. At -175.44 for the win, Betty and co. are giving up very good value. If you want even better odds, RNG to cover the -4.5 kill line can also be considered.
