On Tuesday, Dignitas announced the signing of four new players to complete their League of Legends roster. They are the final team to confirm their squad for the 2023 LOL Championship Series (LCS).
The North American franchise took to Twitter to share the news. The announcement was made through a video clip which began with the general manager of Dignitas, James Baker, stating that he was tired of losing.
Top laner Irfan “Armut” Berk Tukek, a two-time League of Legends European Championship (LEC) winner, joins a team composed of mostly LCS players. Prior to this move, the 24-year-old spent two years with MAD Lions.
The other members of the team are jungler Lucas “Santorin” Tao Kilmer Larsen, mid laner Nicolai “Jensen” Jensen, ADC Trevor “Spawn” Kerr-Taylor, and support Lee “IgNar” Dong-geun.
Dignitas have been making significant changes to their LOL roster since returning to the LCS in 2020. They have made a shift in recent years by signing high-profile names.
In the past, Dignitas struggled to achieve success despite signing talented players like Heo “Huni” Seung-hoon and Kim “River” Dong-woo. This year, the organization has invested a significant amount of money in building the current team.
The only returning member of the Dignitas roster for the 2023 season is Spawn, a Canadian player who was subbed in for Toàn “Neo” Tr?n during the 2022 Summer Split. This will be his first full year in North America’s premier league, having made his way from Dignitas Academy.
In 2021, Santorin was a teammate of Jensen at Team Liquid, and in 2020 he played at FlyQuest with IgNar, leading the team to back-to-back finals and a strong showing at the LOL World Championship as North America’s second seed.
To make room for the new additions, Dignitas released three members of their 2022 LOL roster: top laner Lee “Hoon” Jang-hoon, jungler Lawrence “Exyu” Xu, and support Vincent “Biofrost” Wang. In November, the franchise parted ways with Ersin “Blue” Goren and also strategic coach Joshua “Mabrey” Mabrey, who has found a new home with Immortals.
The new Dignitas roster will make its debut as a unit in the 2023 LCS Spring Split, which is scheduled to commence on January 26.
